The newest class of Soviet aircraft carrier is indeed Gorshkov. This class, officially known as the Admiral Gorshkov class, represents the next generation of Russian aircraft carriers designed for the modern naval warfare environment. The lead ship of this class, the Admiral Flota Sovetskogo Soyuza Gorshkov, was launched in 2006 and incorporates advanced technologies, which mark a significant evolution from earlier designs.

In contrast, while the Admiral Kuznetsov is often recognized as the only aircraft carrier currently in service with the Russian Navy, it was commissioned in 1990 and is considered older compared to the Gorshkov class. The Varyag is another aircraft carrier that started its construction during the Soviet era and is primarily known for its role in the Chinese Navy after being sold to China and renamed Liaoning. The Tbilisi, while an aircraft carrier prototype, did not advance into an operational class and therefore does not represent the newest design. Thus, the emphasis on Gorshkov reflects its status as the latest in Soviet-era naval engineering and design advancements.
